FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS     ARCHIVE CD'S FOR ONLY $15

LOOKING FOR SOME HARD TO FIND MUSIC?
Are you tired of waiting for some of those old classic albums to be released onto CD? Unfortunately, many of those oldies but goodies will never make it onto a CD, but fortunately for you, Going Digital Music is committed to changing that reality...one album at a time. GDM specializes in remastering records and cassettes onto a CD so you can enjoy all those great songs you've been missing for so many years. We call them ARCHIVE CD's or (ACD's).

WHAT IS AN ARCHIVE CD (ACD)?
An archive CD (ACD) is an album that has been remastered and recorded from either an LP, CASSETTE or CD (*denotes recorded from original CD source) and recorded onto a CD. The work and sound just like a CD that you would buy from a store, and can be played on your home or car CD player, DVD player, computer CD-ROM drive, etc. With so many of your favorite albums never released onto commercial CD, it's a fantastic way to relive those memories from your past or even discover some great new music at a fair and reasonable price. With an ACD, you get the great sound of an LP with the convenience, portability and longevity of a CD.

COPYRIGHT INFORMATION
To comply with copyright law, you must own an original copy of the album on LP, CASSETTE, 8-TRACK, or a damaged CD in order to acquire a copy of any archive CD. If you do not own an original copy of the album, you may be able to purchase one from Going Digital, www.ebay.com www.gemm.com or www.musicstack.com or find one in the back of an old smelly thrift store. Please email GDM for all available titles that we have in stock (we can also locate many of these on LP for you from one of the many sellers we work with).

If you are the copyright holder of any of these albums on ACD's and would  prefer your item not be made available to the public, please email GDM and we will gladly honor your wishes. All ACD's from GDM should be out of print or very rare and hard to find via normal channels. If you see something below that IS available as a regular  commercial CD (from the band, as a reissue, etc),  please  notify GDM so it can be removed.  GDM sells vinyl records and cassette tapes as a product, and archived CDs as a service.

HOW MUCH DO ACD'S COST?
Most ACD's are $15 in order to cover the cost of labor, time and materials.

DO ACD'S SOUND GOOD?
They do when we get done with them! All our ACD's are carefully remastered from either an LP, CASSETTE or recorded from a CD with great care and precision. The bottom line is this...if it doesn't sound good...we don't sell it...PERIOD!

WHAT IS REMASTERING?
We do the following 10-STEP remastering process for LP's and CASSETTES to ensure the highest quality of sound on each ACD that you purchase from me:

1.   Professionally clean the LP with the Loricraft PRC4 Professional Record Cleaning System (without a doubt the worlds finest record cleaner), so it sounds the best it possibly can...this step is extremely important as it cuts out probably 95% of the pops and clicks in most records due to dirt or static. If someone besides GDM is recording your records, make sure and ask them what they use to clean their records with!

2.   Record the LP or CASSETTE onto my computer as a wave file using a low output amp designed specifically for this purpose (this helps cut down on any buzz sounds that higher amps produce).

3.   Run the wave file through a pop and noise filter to help reduce and even eliminate many of the crackling and pops in many LP'S and reduce the hiss found on most CASSETTES (not a $20-$40 extra charge like other companies). We put these settings very low because the record is crystal clean from the Loricraft and also I do not want to alter  the sound quality of the album. Often times we will go in by hand and remove any remaining pops and clicks that we hear or see on the song file. We want it to sound the best it can when we're done with it.

4.   Break the wave file into tracks. We do this by hand and do not use software to do this very important job, because ANY software (no matter how expensive) is inaccurate and we want it to be perfect.

5.   Run wave files through a music enhancer to help bring the highs and lows of the album alive. Again, this is done at a very low  level so as not to overwhelm the album and make it sound bad.

6.   Insert silence between tracks for a 'CD like' transition from song to song. We clear out the noisy space between songs and replace it with 1 second of silence before each song and then fade out the end of each song so it sounds just like a normal CD. Again, this task is all done by hand, not software.

7.   Level the volume on all the tracks.

8.   Record it onto a CD.

9.   Scan the front cover, touch up any bad spots, print out the album cover with the song list on back (not a $10-$20 charge like other companies).

10.  Ship your ACD to you in a CD envelope (I don't use cases in order to cut down on shipping costs).

Remember...anyone can record an LP or CASSETTE onto a CD, but very few will take the time and effort to carefully remaster the LP or CASSETTE before recording. you can get it done cheap or you can get it done right! Like always...you get what you pay for.

WHAT ABOUT LIVE ALBUMS?

If you've had other companies record a live album for you, more than likely you experienced the pain and agony of the 1 or 2 second delay between songs. The only reason this happens is because the company does not know the simple secret of breaking the music file into tracks and recording it in the proper format. GDM has perfected this procedure and that means that all of our live albums sound just like the concert experience. It's a small thing, but every detail counts when you want the best sound!

CAN I GET MY ACD IN MP3 FORMAT?
Sure. If you prefer your ACD in MP3 format instead of regular audio tracks, just let us know when you place your order. Cost is the same, and your music can be transferred to an iPod or any other MP3 player of your choice. All MP3's are recorded at 160 or 320 bit rate unless requested otherwise. It will also come with a scan of the album cover (jpeg format) that you can load into your MP3 player.
